Baby Got Back – Back bending into Bliss
Come and explore the life affirming possibilities that the practice of back bending brings! On a physical level, backbends strengthen the muscles of the back body, as well as the legs, shoulders, and hips. The chest, lungs, and internal organs are massaged, stretched, and toned.
With this strength, the muscles of the body become less rigid and more supple, creating more freedom of movement, better posture, deeper breath patterns, and a greater feeling of well being. All of these benefits can help us to live in our bodies with increasing comfort and fewer aches and pains and greater vitality.
Emotionally back bending develops both strength and flexibility, enhancing both the security of self-knowledge and the flexibility of receptivity. “Baby got back” reminds us to make peace with our back bodies history using our past to give ourselves our own permission to be happy today. We will start with a dynamic flow to building inner heat (tapas) through core work and radical self-inquiry. Confront your judgments and fear and learn powerful tools to identify, forgive and integrate the shadow aspects of Self we tend to deny or conceal. While in the flow examine the 3 key habits of happiness we can apply to every pose, and to your life.

After a balanced sweaty, laughter filled practice of deep twisting, back bending, and step by step inversions there will be a series of guided meditations designed to help you get clarity on what you want to be manifesting in your life, on and off the mat, as well as journaling on vision and goal setting. Movement and stillness will be used to help you boldly declare the direction you envision possible for your life.
Feel Better, Look Better Intro to Ayurveda Workshop
This will be a fun, introductory workshop for anyone interested in learning about ways to feel healthier, more vibrant and more balanced using the basic concepts and guidelines of Ayurveda, the science of life and optimal longevity. Fundamentally when our bodies and minds are in balance, we can make sound, nourishing choices that allow us to achieve the health and lifestyle changes we are seeking. With clear thinking we can identify and create our best life ever! No previous knowledge is necessary.
This workshop will offer you the basics of Ayurveda
1. The 5-element theory, three primary bio-energies or mind/body types of Vata, Pitta and Kapha (doshas).
2. You will discover your unique physical/mental/emotional constitution and how it relates to your mind, body, senses and soul.
3. You will learn about the “Yoga of Eating”: How to select and use the most nourishing foods for your particular body type which helps you to access optimum digestion and body weight.
4. How to renew your body every day by eliminating toxins and performing gentle rejuvenation techniques known as Dinacharya.
Why do love teaching Ayurveda?
I have always been curious about how things work in the best way possible. I have also always had this undeniable impulse to share information with others – you could say I am a compulsive educator and some say I have “love tourette’s”. I really do love to help people understand things. Some years back while continuing my life-long study of yoga I started learning more about Ayurveda and it struck me as an incredibly logical and intuitive way of looking at our humanness – both physically and emotionally. I have been a student of Ayurveda ever since and continue to expand my knowledge in all ways possible. To me it’s not about living longer, it is about “quality longevity” and living better.
Writing with Movement: Yoga and Journaling
Yoga gives us a way to tap into the present moment of stability. The poses help us quiet the fluctuations of our minds into more gentle wave patterns. Writing our yoga is made more accessible by the clarity we gain from the physical practice of poses and meditation.
Yoga also helps us to tap into our creative potential. By practicing with regularity we feel the transformation possible in our bodies.Just like Yoga, journaling is a form of creative expression that gives us deep insight into our own self-observations and learning. Together in this practice we combine the physical practice and the writing practice for even greater transformation.
In this workshop learn to explore yourself even beyond yoga philosophy and poses through guided yoga practice and journaling. Yoga stretches our mind muscle and teaches us how to connect with ourselves and accept the sense things make or make sense of things. Journaling gives us insight into the held patterns of behavior, thoughts and feelings that have kept us from experiencing our potentiality or seeing clearly. When we can't make sense of things we restrict ourselves from uniting with our own true nature, joy!
Seasonal Detox Flow - 4 Times Per Year
Seasonal Healing is one of the best ways to remind ourselves that it is time to evaluate our health. Our moods and bodies change as the seasons change. Past cultures have learned how to harmonize their bodies with the world around them. By altering their lifestyle with the change in the seasons, they were able to live longer, healthier lives.
Each day, we are exposed to toxins—through the food we eat, the air we breathe, and the products we use. Even our thoughts and emotions, when negative or repressed, can be as unhealthy as a poor diet or sedentary lifestyle. This two hour seasonal practice is meant to help you remove the physical and emotional impurities that prevent you from achieving greater happiness.
Practiced for centuries in ayurvedic and Chinese medicine systems and other cultures, detoxification is about stimulating, cleansing, and nourishing the body from the inside out. We will explore:
• Meditations for releasing stagnant mental patterns
• Journaling reflections
• Sun salutations and other effective poses—unique movement combinations that stimulate the circulatory and lymphatic systems and help clear out toxins
• Practical lifestyle suggestions to help cultivate dietary awareness, proper exercise, spiritual renewal, and more (handout)
The reason detox yoga is a top strategy is that you are accessing every gland, muscle, and organ in your body. You are collaborating with your body to remove unwanted waste and unwanted toxins in a methodical, strategic and highly conscious way. Due to the conscious component of detox yoga, you literally feel what is happening during your detox. You’ll leave this workshop craving that which will bring your detox through it’s full and natural cycle in your lifestyle choices. Through this increased awareness you will step deeper into your most vibrant health and inner freedom.
